Tutoring ranked as one of 10 franchise categories poised for growth in 2010
Oradell, New Jersey, December, 2009 – Huntington Learning Center, the nation’s oldest provider of supplemental education services, was named in Entrepreneur magazine’s 2010 Trends issue (December 2009). After significant research, Entrepreneur chose 10 growing franchise categories that are “worth keeping an eye on in the year ahead.” Tutoring joins the list along with child care, fitness, frozen yogurt, gourmet burgers, green/eco-friendly, massage services, men’s salons, party services and senior care.
“For eight consecutive years, Huntington has experienced record growth across the United States,” said Dr. Raymond Huntington, founder of Huntington Learning Center. “Clearly, the services we provide are important to many American families. But we also believe that Huntington’s growth is attributable to our record of success with children. The Huntington approach to helping students do better in school is both proven and effective.”
Huntington Learning Center began franchising its retail-based learning centers (as Huntington Center Services) in 1985 and has since grown to more than 375 learning centers in 42 states. The company opened more than 50 new learning centers in 2008 alone. In April 2009, Huntington also launched the Huntington School Services franchise offering, which uses federal funds provided under the No Child Left Behind Act to tutor disadvantaged students. Huntington has worked with more than 150 school districts in 34 states to help them increase academic performance since 2002.
Both the Huntington Center Services and Huntington School Services franchise concepts made Entrepreneur’s list of tutoring services providers. In the same issue, Entrepreneur’s list of 10 business categories that continue to thrive despite the lagging economy included “parental outsourcing.” The article stated that “revenue for tutoring, test prep and driving schools is expected to increase $100 million, to more than $7 billion in 2010.”
“People choose to become Huntington franchise operators not only because of the increased demand for supplemental education services across the country, but because they believe in what we do,” said Dr. Huntington. “Eileen and I started this company because we believe that every child can thrive when given one-to-one instruction from a warm and knowledgeable teacher. We’re thankful that Huntington continues to grow so we can reach more children every day.”
